BUILDING CHINA BRIDGES · CONSUMER FUTURES

China’s next export will be experience

From making the world’s products to staging the world’s everyday life

China filled the world’s shelves and screens. It may next help shape where the world eats, stays, shops and plays. The hidden export is a system that can create, open and renew destinations in many cities.

01 / THE SIGNAL

The storefront is only the visible layer

Mixue, Pop Mart, Miniso and H World show different pieces of a broader consumer capability: brand development, supply control, digital membership, operating standards and frequent renewal. The source paper cites over 45,000 Mixue stores across China and 11 overseas countries as of September 30, 2024, as reported in its 2025 prospectus.

Success abroad demands more than cloning a Chinese store. Domestic platforms, labour models and tastes do not transfer intact. The proposition must be locally wanted at the front and supported by scalable Chinese expertise behind the scenes.

02 / THE UNDERSERVED MIDDLE

Look beyond the prestige capitals

Fast-growing cities across the GCC, Southeast Asia, Central Asia, Africa and Latin America may have malls, tourism plans and young consumers without enough dependable, affordable experiences between the informal outlet and imported luxury. Existing local businesses and culture remain central to the opportunity.

The paper sets out eight possible platforms: multi-unit foodservice; beverages and desserts; cultural retail; affordable hotels; family leisure; convenience and community retail; mixed-use destinations; and the infrastructure that supports them. Each should be screened for the consumer occasion it serves, not counted as an automatic rollout.

03 / THE PLATFORM

One concept, one market, one repeatable system

A regional platform can select Chinese concepts, rebuild menus and formats for local demand, qualify partners, secure sites, manage compliance and finance early stores. Dubai could coordinate parts of the Middle East and neighbouring regions; Southeast Asian hubs would need their own local leadership.

The first foreign market should be a classroom with customers, not a flag on a map. Start with a specific occasion, demonstrate repeat visits and unit economics, then expand a portfolio only when the operating system can support it.

KATALYX PERSPECTIVE

Back to the Drawing Board

The next champion may be measured less by what it ships than by how many people voluntarily walk through its doors every day.
